j mascis

circle May 1 on your calendars. Dinosaur Jr drops Beyond.

i've been lucky enough to get a copy of it, and it sounds as good or better than their SST days - or even Where You Been - and that's a bold fuckin' statement. the fact that the original line-up is back together is the icing on the cake. apparently the band is aware of the leak, and is being very non-Metallica about the whole thing, asking that the leaking stops until after it's officially released. after that, they said, it can be a free-for-all.

but i know you won't do 'em like that. get the record, and then hit the show. unfuckwithable.

so as much as i'd like to let ya hear the first one off their new album, i'm gonna wait like they said. in the meantime, check out mascis + the Fog from 2000.

listen: j mascis + the Fog - sameday
listen: j mascis + the Fog - ammaring

caught them live last year...played exclusively from the first three records, with The Wagon thrown in for good measure.

Yeah.

They sucked out loud.

In a word "Boooorrrrrrrriiiinnnnnnnnnnngggggggg".

Worst show since the whole Social Distortion show.

Completely worthless.

Except the Wagon.
That was good.

They were much better on the Lallopaloozia tour.

Infinitely better.

you know what, more or less i have to agree with you on that one.

everything after Bug - while Murph may have played drums here or there - was basically a Mascis solo endeavor. and while that shit was good, there's something about Bug that is special.

and if someone wanted to hear a Dinosaur Jr song, i'd probably play them Freak Scene.

good news about Social Distortion. i really hope they play at a bar this time. last time, i saw them in an ice rink and the acoustics weren't too good.

did ya hit the Fu Manchu show yet?
